How not to burn down your house this Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks! Chances are, you’ve already planned out where you and your loved ones will be gathering to celebrate and are now getting ready to start gathering all of your favorite recipes together for the big day. Although the holidays bring a lot of joyful moments, they also bring up some unique situations for fire hazards. Here are some precautions to take to keep from burning your house down this Thanksgiving!

Because for real, no one wants that 😅

Cooking
Your stove is definitely going to be getting a lot of attention this Thanksgiving! Be sure to pay close attention to what you’re doing and keep flammable objects away. You’ll also want to remember to double-check that you’ve turned off the stove before leaving the kitchen and set a timer for food that you’re letting sit to avoid possible fires (and to not overcook this year’s turkey!)
Smoking
If you or any of your guests smoke, be sure to do it outside using a safe ashtray. Also, never toss your cigarettes into a bush. That’s an accident waiting to happen! Fan of using e-cigarettes? Don’t forget to unplug them overnight and don’t use them if they’ve gotten wet!
Candles
We know, it’s the season of Bath and Body Works candles and you’ve more than likely have had all of your “leaves” candles burning since the beginning of September! If you’re planning on lighting a few for the holiday, remember to keep them away from objects that could easily catch on fire, away from the reach of children and pets, and never fall asleep with one lit.
Smoke Alarms
If you haven’t replaced the batteries in your smoke alarms recently, now’s the perfect time to do so! Test your smoke alarms monthly and you can replace the batteries every six months, or as needed. Having these working properly will keep you alert in case things do go wrong!
In this time of Thanksgiving, we just want to take a chance to say thank you! Thank you to Jones Warren for allowing us to re-post this content.  We also want to thank all of you who follow us on Facebook, Instagram and our website and for the referrals that you’ve given us over the past year. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!
